Acute Mountain Sickness

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is a disorder caused by lack of oxygen at high altitude. A large part of Aladaglar Sky Trail takes place over 2000 meters of altitude and the participants can possibly be affected from AMS. The basic precaution for not getting AMS is acclimatization.

Transportation

Nigde is accessible by domestic and international flights, by intercity buses, and by car. There are regular minibus shuttles from Nigde to Demirkazik.

We are organising a direct shuttle service from Nevsehir Airport, Nevsehir Bus Terminal, Kayseri Airport, and Kayseri Bus Terminal to Aladaglar for Aladaglar Sky Trail participants and supporters. This will be a paid shuttle service with no hassle of multi-leg bus journeys and with a cheaper price than regular bus services. One-way price is 50 TL (15 Euro).

There will be also a daily shuttle service from/to the race village from Nigde, Camardi, and nearby hotels.

Alternatively, in order to reach Demirkazik you can take Camardi minibuses that depart from the Old Terminal in Nigde. One-way price is 12 TL (3 Euro).

Flights

You may reach Nigde by Nevsehir Cappadocia (NAV) and Kayseri Erkilet International (ASR) airports. From the airports you need to go to Nevsehir or Kayseri Bus Terminals, from which you can take regular buses to Nigde.

Buses

Bus travel in Turkey is economic and comfortable. You may reach Nigde by scheduled buses which depart from all major cities of Turkey.

Car

If you are planning to reach Demirkazik by car, the travel takes about 6 hours from Ankara and 11 hours from Istanbul. Majority of the routes are dual carriage way.

General symptoms of this sickness which happens due to the low atmospheric pressure at high altitudes are as follows: a headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue. In Aladağlar Sky Trail, runners showing signs of AMS before and at the first control point of Celikbuyduran pass and Emler summit will not be allowed to continue. Besides, additional health and rescue teams will do necessary controls in the first ascent between Sokullupınar highland and Celikbuyduran pass.
